macOS Catalina (or macOS 10.15) is the name of the next-gen operating for Macs. It is a major upgrade to macOS and includes plenty of new features and updates. However, a big question that many MacBook, iMac, or even Mac Mini users will now have is if their device supports this new version. To help you get an answer, we have prepared a list of all macOS Catalina-supported devices.

Supported devices from mid-2012 or later

Apple said the list of macOS Catalina-supported devices includes those from mid-2012 or later, which will get the macOS Catalina update this fall. If you have a developer account, you can try the beta version of the new version even now. macOS Catalina will be available to public beta testers in July, while the final version will arrive in the fall.

Should you upgrade?

If you have a Mac or plan to buy any device from the list above, then you will be eligible for a free macOS 10.15 update. If you don’t own any of the devices on the list, you will have to figure out your next move. You will need to evaluate if macOS 10.15 offers features you can’t live without. If yes, then you will have to buy a new Mac.

One of the new features coming to the Mac is the ability to use the iPad as a secondary display. Developers will also get the capability to port iPhone and iPad apps to the desktop. Other items coming in the new OS are the extended desktop in Safari, Screen Time on macOS, a new “Find My” app, new Music, Podcasts, and TV apps, updates to the Photos interface, a brand-new Reminders app, and updates to Markdown.
